Tanker fouled propeller, hampered traffic in main Shanghai Channel
Product tanker GANG WANG contacted fairway buoy A47 in Yangtze river estuary in the main Shanghai Port channel at around 0300 Beijing time Jul 18, and started to drift, endangering channel navigation. Two tugs assisted tanker, it took some 5 hours to clear tanker s propeller and move her away from channel, she was anchored in safe waters.

Scorpio Tankers Inks Sale, Leaseback for Seven Units
Monaco-based shipowner Scorpio Tankers has agreed to sell and leaseback seven of its product tankers to an international financial institution.
The deal includes six MR product tankers, namely, STI San Antonio, STI Benicia, STI St. Charles, STI Yorkville, STI Mayfair and STI Duchessa, as well as one LR2 product tanker, STI Alexis. Scorpio Tankers will bareboat charter-in the vessels for a period of seven years.

Robbers Board Maersk Tanker in East Malaysia
An unknown number of perpetrators boarded the oil and chemical product tanker Maersk Cancun while the ship was anchored at Sandakan Port, East Malaysia.
The intruders boarded the Singapore-flagged ship, stole ship stores and escaped, regional piracy watchdog ReCAAP ISC informed. The deck watch crew later discovered that the forepeak store locker padlock aboard the Maersk Tankers-operated vessel was broken.

WISTA: Voice of Women in Shipping to Be Heard at IMO
The Women s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) International has received an approval for consultative status from IMO. The International Maritime Organization s governing body, the IMO Council, approved WISTA’s application on July 5, 2018.
"Consultative status gives us the opportunity to promote diversity, inclusion and women’s empowerment, which are our main aims," Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou, WISTA International President, said.

Stena Lifts Options for Two More E-Flexer Ships
Ferry operator Stena Line has decided to exercise its option to build a seventh and eighth E-Flexer vessel at Avic Weihai Shipyard, China. The two vessels will be deployed within Stena Line s route network with a planned delivery in 2022. Additionally, Stena RoRo has taken an option on the construction of a further four E-Flexer vessels at the yard.

Davie Blazes Trail in LNG-Fueled Ferry Building in North America
Canadian shipbuilder Davie has delivered the first LNG-powered ice-class ferry to be built in North America, M/V Armand Imbeau II. The shipbuilder said that the vessel, which can be powered entirely by LNG, passed all testing with flying colours.

Stena Bulk Charters In Six Suezmaxes
Swedish tanker shipping company Stena Bulk said that it had expanded its fleet in the Sonangol Suezmax pool with the addition of six Suezmax tankers over the past six months.
The ships have been chartered in despite rather difficult market conditions in the sector and Stena Bulk believes that more tonnage will be hired soon.

Philly Shipyard Wins Non-Binding Order for MR Pair
U.S.-based shipbuilder Philly Shipyard seems to have broken the dry spell having secured a non-binding order for the construction of two 50,000 dwt tankers.
Specifically, announcing its second quarter results, the shipbuilder said that it had signed a non-binding term sheet for the construction and sale of two newbuild Jones Act Medium Range (MR) product tankers with an undisclosed customer. The two ships, if confirmed, are scheduled for delivery in Q4 2020 and Q1 2021 respectively.

Tidewater, GulfMark Merger to Produce Largest OSV Fleet
The US-based companies Tidewater and GulfMark Offshore have received the green light from their boards of directors to merge. The merger, if realized, would produce a global offshore support vessel (OSV) leader with the industry s largest fleet of 245 vessels.
The USD 1.25 billion combined company will be operated under the Tidewater brand, with the transaction expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2018, subject to relevant conditions.

Port emissions training for Argentina
IMO s work supporting countries to reduce emissions in ports has reached Argentina, the seventh country to benefit from a port emissions training package. Around 40 personnel working in the country s maritime sector underwent training on how to assess air emissions in ports and develop strategies to address emissions from different sources, at a workshop in Buenos Aires, Argentina (10-12 July).

Tripoli Port becomes Transshipment Hub For East Asia
CMA CGM has launched a direct route between China and Southeast Asia to North Europe, passing through Port of Tripoli (PoT), as a transshipment port.
The route will become operational as of August 16. "This move will transform the port from a secondary hub into a primary one," said PoT Director Ahmad Tamer. CMA CGM ships up to 200 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units) per week. Starting next month, at least 800 TEUs will pass through PoT per week. Feeder vessels will then move the merchandise to neighboring ports.

Qatar and Italy seek to enhance ties in ports sector
HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti met Italian Ports Association (ASSOPORTI) secretary-general Francesco Mariani in Doha yesterday. The meeting discussed co-operation relations between Qatar and Italy in the ports sector. The meeting also discussed establishing effective alliances in the maritime business between both sides, co-operation in managing ports and operations, training and developing employees skills, exchanging ideas and the best procedures to improve ports’ operation. The Italian ambassador to Qatar, Pasquale Salzano, attended the meeting.

Angola Annuls $1.5 Billion Port Deal With Dos Santos-Linked Firm
A company with ties to Africa s richest woman, Isabel dos Santos, is threatening to seek compensation from the Angolan government after losing concession rights to build a $1.5 billion port near the capital, Luanda.
The decision to withdraw the contract to build and operate the Barra do Dande port appears to be yet another step by President Joao Lourenco to ease the grip of his predecessor s family on the nation s economy. Lourenco dismissed 45-year-old Isabel dos Santos as chairwoman of state oil producer Sonangol last year before firing her brother, Jose Filomeno, as head of Angola s $5 billion sovereign wealth fund.
