Singapore beefs up safety measures for crew change.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has announced enhanced safety measures in Singapore port amid the ongoing risks of importing coronavirus (COVID-19) cases into the country.
Singapore has seen three cases within one week, where crew members scheduled to sign-on to ocean-going cargo ships were found to be COVID-19 positive upon arrival. This has prevented the shipping companies concerned from conducting successful crew changes.Posted On:27-Jul-2020

Passenger ship catches fire off Cebu waters.
A Cebu-based shipping firm has reported "huge damage" from the fire incident involving one of its ships, the MV Filipinas Dinagat, that occurred off the waters in northern Cebu on Thursday night.
Chesna Cokaliong, chief of staff of the Cokaliong Shipping Lines, said on Friday that an investigation is underway to find out the cause of the fire that razed the passenger ship off Catmon town.
While the amount of the damage is yet to be known, Cokaliong estimated a huge loss, saying the ship’s engine was brand new and some facilities were undergoing renovation.Posted On:27-Jul-2020

UK : Charity for seafarers stuck on ships at port.
Socks, a basketball and jars of Nutella are among the items that have been given to crew on ships docked in Liverpool in the coronavirus crisis.
Since March, many ports have not allowed crew changes or shore leave, so thousands stay stuck on their ships.
John Wilson, from Liverpool Seafarers Centre, said: "Sometimes they re the forgotten workforce, who bring 95% of our goods and services into the UK.

Shipping companies protect seafarer health against COVID-19, survey reveals.
A new joint survey by the International Chamber of Shipping and the International Transport Federation reveals that shipping companies are taking strong measures to protect the health of seafarers and the general public from COVID-19.
Measures being taken include the provision of information, training and equipment along with hard surface disinfection. Other measures include physical segregation of seafarers from visitors to the ship and the segregation of seafarers from the general public.Posted On:27-Jul-2020

Royal Caribbean revamps safety drill.
In light of the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing orders, Royal Caribbean s safety drill is going digital to avoid crowding strangers together for group muster sessions, the company announced Friday.
The drills, which are known as Muster 2.0, will require travelers to go through the cruise line s emergency safety protocols on an individual basis before the ship sets sail. Information on the ship s exits and how to properly wear a life jacket will be available in app form - a first for the cruise industry.

217 Filipino seafarers to test the waters in new German cruise ship assignment.
A total of 217 newly hired Filipino seafarers will join the short-term cruises onboard a German cruise ship that is set to sail for the first time in the European waters since the industry was shut down due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic.
The Filipinos arrived on July 22, 2020 at the Rostock Airport in Germany from Manila on board a chartered flight arranged by German cruise operator AIDA Cruises, to commence preparations for the summer cruise season.Posted On:27-Jul-2020

Cargo ship hit rocks, partially sank, Java sea.
Aggregates carrier KM DJO NO 3, caught in rough weather, drifted towards shore and hit the rocks at Masalembu island, Java sea, Indonesia, at night Jul 24, with ensuing water ingress. The ship partially sank, but understood, she may be yet salvaged, or at least, her cargo of marchandise and construction materials. Of 16 people on board (13 being crew), 9 were evacuated, 7 remained on board to protect the cargo and assist in salvage. The ship sailed from Surabaya.Posted On:27-Jul-2020
