Two Ocean-Going Methanol-Fueled Newbuilds Join Waterfront Fleet
Canadian transportation company Waterfront Shipping Company, part of Methanex Corporation, and shipping and investment group Marinvest/Skagerack Invest (Marinvest) have welcomed two new, clean-burning vessels to the Waterfront fleet.
M/T Mari Couva and M/T Mari Kokako were launched in Ulsan, Korea, on August 16, 2019.
Owned by a joint venture between Waterfront and Marinvest, they will be chartered by Waterfront to replace the company s older tonnage.

Australia Joins US-Led Coalition to Protect Ships in Strait of Hormuz
Australia has decided to join the United States-led mission to ensure freedom of navigation and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions with Iran.
According to the country s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, Australia would deploy a frigate in January 2020 for six months, a P-8A Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft for one month before the end of 2019 and ADF personnel to the International Maritime Security Construct headquarters in Bahrain.

Napier Port Debuts on New Zealand s Exchange
New Zealand s Napier Port has completed its NZD 234 million (around USD 150 million) initial public offer (IPO) that would enable the port to fund its long-term investment program.
A listing ceremony was held at the port s Breakwater Road site in Napier on August 20.
After ringing the bell to welcome in trading of the port s shares on the New Zealand’s Exchange (NZX) under the ticker NPH , Chairman Alasdair MacLeod said the success of the IPO would allow investment in the port infrastructure.

BBC Chartering Welcomes Its New CEO
Germany-based shipping company BBC Chartering, part of the Briese Schiffahrt Group, has appointed Ulrich Ulrichs as a new CEO of the company.
As announced in May, Ulrichs has taken over the CEO position from Svend Anderson.
"We fully support Mr. Ulrichs in his new role, and we have full confidence that he will keep BBC Chartering on its steady course," Roelf Briese from BBC Chartering said.

Better Spot Rates Help Odfjell Shrink Loss
Norway-based tanker and terminal operator Odfjell has continued the trend of reducing its quarterly loss amid improved spot rates and lower bunker costs.
The company s net loss stood at USD 10.1 million in the second quarter of 2019, shrinking from a loss of USD 15.4 million reported in the previous quarter.

Two crew of Suezmax tanker died after drinking methyl spirit
Second officer and an AB, both Ukrainians, died after they drank methyl spirit on board of crude oil tanker MAGUS during the night Aug 19-20. Master of tanker, anchored off Taman, Kerch Strait anchorage, Black sea, requested immediate assistance to two poisoned crew. They were transferred on board of a tug to be taken to hospital in Taman. One died during transportation, another one reportedly, died in hospital.

Passenger vessel collided with yacht, 5 injured, Italy
Passenger vessel with 350 tourists on board collided with 20-meter yacht with 5 people on boat in Aeolian islands waters, Sicily, Italy, at around 0930 UTC Aug 20. Passenger vessel portside bow was breached above anchor, see pic. Yacht was taken to Lipari, passenger vessel was escorted to Santa Marina Salina, Salina island. 5 tourists were injured.

The Ocean Cleanup has completed another test campaign in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, proving that its latest design solved a major issue.
"After a 6-week testing campaign, our main technical challenge is solved by modifying the system to move at a consistent speed through the plastic," the company said.

Poland s Port of Gdansk Authority (PGA) has contracted a consulting company for the development of the Central Port in Gdansk on a public-private partnership model.
As a complex of envisioned 6 to 8 terminals and deep-water quays used for different purposes, the Central Port in Gdansk is the largest planned maritime investment in Europe, according to the port authority.

CLIA: Popularity of Cruising in Asia Set to Grow
Cruising in Asia is expected to become more popular over the coming years, with cruise lines deploying new, larger ships that have been purposely built for this region, according to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
"The coming generation of ships will replace older ships previously based in Asia, and when coupled with new cruise infrastructure in several Asian destinations are expected to fuel strong interest among travelers," Joel Katz, Managing Director for CLIA Australasia & Asia, explained.

MPA Launches Singapore s First Maritime Sustainability Reporting Guide
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), together with its partners - Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX), Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS), Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), and sustainability consultants from Ernst & Young LLP, KPMG and PwC Singapore, have launched the first sector-specific Maritime Sustainability Reporting Guide today at an event witnessed by around 150 guests.

Another step towards the Central Port
The Central Port in Gdansk is the largest planned maritime investment in Europe. The Port of Gdansk Authority (PGA) has signed an agreement with a consulting company, which will support the construction of the port basing on a public-private partnership model.
In 2019, the Port of Gdansk sets new records in cargo handling, but at the same time it continues intensive work on its key infrastructural project which is the Central Port.

Continued growth for SafeSTS in Trinidad
