Over 200 traineeship opportunities offered in maritime sector.
OVER 200 traineeships in the maritime sector are being made available for fresh and recent graduates under the SGUnited Traineeships Programme, with similar attachment opportunities for mid-career workers, Senior Minister of State for Transport and Foreign Affairs Chee Hong Tat announced on Tuesday.

Sailors Society Launches Helpline for Indian Seafarers.
A new dedicated helpline aims to support Indian seafarers and their families as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to place added pressures on maritime workers globally.
The round-the-clock helpline was set up by Sailors Welfare Association, an affiliate of international maritime welfare charity Sailors Society, after the charity saw a marked increase in calls for help from desperate seafarers, many of whom had lost incomes or were anxious and struggling to cope.Posted On:26-Aug-2020

The Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius is facing one of its most serious crises in its modern history. On 21 July, around a week into its voyage from Singapore to the Brazilian port of Tubarao, the MV Wakashio, a 300-metre long bulk carrier, owned and operated by Japanese companies, deviated from its course and headed towards Mauritius instead of the regular shipping lanes several nautical miles south of it. LNG tanker crew stabbed, heavily wounded another crew, tanker interrupted voyage.
One of the crew of LNG tanker MADRID SPIRIT went amok and attacked another crew with the knife, stabbing him in the back, head and thorax, on Aug 20, inflicting heavy injures, which required emergency surgery. Philippines positions itself as the crew change capital of the world
The Philippines is trying to position itself as a crew change hub, adding three more ports along with Manila where ships can get seafarers on and off. The ports of Panila, Capinpin and Subic Bay have all been given the green light to become crew change locations. Bahamas Paradise settles, will pay crew $875,000 for months of work without wages.
Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line crew members may finally get paid after months of working without wages on the company s Florida-based ships.
In a settlement agreement reached between the crew members and the company Friday, Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line will pay $875,000 to around 275 crew members, according to the lawyer representing the crew, Michael Winkleman. India : Change of over 100,000 crew members facilitated at ports: Shipping Ministry.
The shipping ministry on Tuesday said it has facilitated change of more than one lakh crew members at Indian ports and through chartered flights amid the coronavirus pandemic.
