USCG icebreaker HEALY maimed by fire, limping to Seattle
Icebreaker USCGC HEALY (WAGB-20) suffered fire in the evening Aug 18, in one of the two of propulsion electric motors, in Gulf of Alaska, shortly after leaving Seward, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. Fire was extinguished in a short time, no injures reported, but the ship lost her stb propulsion, and had to interrupt planned voyage to Arctic waters. She sailed to homeport of Seattle at a reduced speed, for repairs. At 0430 UTC Aug 26 she was some 500 nm due west of Juan De Fuca Strait entrance, having apparently, some problems along the way, because she stops from time to time, moving at some 6-7 knots speed, while under way.Posted On:27-Aug-2020

Luxury yacht engulfed in fire, 17 people on board rescued.
Luxury charter yacht LADY MM with 8 passengers and 9 crew on board suffered fire on Aug 25 off Sardinia northeast coast, Italy, while en route from Capri to Porto Cervo. All people left the yacht on a tender and were rescued. Yacht meanwhile, was engulfed in flames and dense smoke. No information on her condition and status, as of Aug 26. New Zealand : Concerns international seafarers came to shore for medical treatment without being tested for Covid-19.
The Maritime Union says international seafarers have been coming ashore for medical treatment without first being tested for Covid-19, prompting calls for crew to be tested for the virus before a vessel arrives in New Zealand.

Digital health document created to alleviate crew change crunch.
Swiss-based track and trace specialist SICPA, in partnership with Hong Kong s Crew Assist, has developed an urgently needed tech solution to the crew change crisis.

Charterers playing pass the parcel with crew changes.
Charterers are now discriminating against ships which have long-serving crew onboard rather than risk their cargo being delayed by crew change deviations, warns one crewmanager today.
Roger Storey, managing director of CF Sharp Crew Management, Singapore, reported he has been advised of charterers who are stating in their contracts that vessels should not have any seafarers who have been serving onboard continuously for more than 12 months. Viral videos show Indonesian crew pleading for help aboard Chinese fishing vessel.
Videos apparently showing four Indonesian crew members begging to be rescued from abuse aboard a Chinese fishing vessel have gone viral on social media, the latest in a series of alleged abuses aboard such vessels. "Please get us off this ship immediately. We are being physically abused here. We were kicked, beaten, and they even threatened to stab us," one crew member said in the video. Gothenburg steps up for small crew change on two NCL ships.
Sweden s Port of Gothenburg is facilitating a crew change for two Norwegian Cruise Line ships.
Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Encore each have capacity for 1,700 crew but during this out-of-service period, each is carrying approximately 200 crew required for safe manning.
