Freight forwarders facing the perfect storm of issues at the port of Felixstowe.
Freight forwarders that are now unable to restitute empty containers to the port of Felixstowe until September 23rd say it is yet another example of appalling service from a port that describes itself as The Port of Britain .
Robert Keen, Director General of the British International Freight Association (BIFA) said: "The operational performance at Felixstowe has been very challenging for some time, but over the last 24 hours the issues have escalated to a level that could be disastrous for our members businesses, which have already been hard hit by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.Posted On:19-Sep-2020

90 ships, 900 seafarers to divert to PH per month for crew change.
A Japanese mariner s group on Friday said that about 90 of its member vessels and 900 seafarers will be diverted to the Philippines for crew changes.
In a letter addressed to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the International Mariners Management Association of Japan (IMMAJ) said the figures would result in an average of three vessels per day and 10 seafarers replaced among each of the country s three crew change hubs - Port of Manila, Port of Capinpin in Orion, Bataan; and Subic Bay Freeport.Posted On:19-Sep-2020

2 Filipino seafarers rescued from ship s sinking in Japan to arrive on Sept. 19.
The two rescued Filipino crew members of the Panamanian-flagged vessel Gulf Livestock-1 that sank in the waters off Amami Oshima in the East China Sea will be returning home on September 19, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.
Earlier reports identified the two seafarers as Eduardo Sareno, 45, and Jay-Nel Rosales, 30. The ship’s crew includes a total of 39 Filipinos, 2 New Zealand, 1 Australian, and 1 Singaporean.Posted On:19-Sep-2020

India : Crew changes at Vizhinjam port stalled by local agent
Crew changes on ships at Vizhinjam port, on the southernmost tip of the Indian peninsula, have been stalled by the muscle power displayed by a local steamer agent, which has set up its own association to carve out a monopoly on the activity.
Dowins Resources a local agent in the southern Indian state of Kerala, has formed a body named Minor Ports Traditional Steamer Agents Association (MPTSAA) with the aim of creating a monopoly over the crew change business and block rivals from undertaking crew exchange at Vizhinjam, near Thiruvananthapuram.Posted On:19-Sep-2020
