Turkish freighter ran aground at full speed, Greece
General cargo ship ARSLANBEY ran aground at around 2000 UTC Sep 4 on Kanatadika coast, northern Evia island, Greece, while en route from Amaliapoli mainland Greece to Istanbul. According to track, the ship didn t turn portside as it should, and continued sailing straight ahead, until she ran onto coast or coastal shallows, at her cruising speed, so she may be hard aground. Obviously, it s a navigational error, cause unknown.

Finnish marine technology company Wärtsilä Corporation wants to connect 20 of the most influential marine cities into an efficient, ecologically sound and digitally connected network by 2020.

Hapag-Lloyd Expects USD 1 Bn in Extra Fuel Costs from 2020 Sulphur Cap
German liner company Hapag-Lloyd is facing around USD 1 billion of extra fuel costs stemming from the new sulphur regulations entering into force in 2020.
Speaking at today s TradeWinds Shipowners Forum, being held as part of SMM trade fair program, Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, said that the fuel costs will rise significantly due to the enforcement of the 2020 sulphur cap. "We have a real problem in our hands, and we need to figure out what are we going to do about it," Jansen said.

Diana s Kamsarmax to Continue Working for Cargill
Athens-based shipping company Diana Shipping has inked a new time charter contract with Geneva s Cargill International for one of its Kamsarmax dry bulk vessels, the m/v Medusa.
As informed, the gross charter rate for the 82,194 dwt ship is USD 14,000 per day for a period of minimum thirteen to maximum fifteen months. This time the gross charter rate is considerably higher, compared to USD 10,000 per day agreed during the vessel s previous deployment.

Classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) granted approval in principle (AIP) to Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding s large LNG carrier with MARK III Flex membrane cargo containment system. Vessel traffic to Nigeria dropped by 2.3 % in Q 1 2018
The traffic of vessels that made port calls to Nigeria in the first quarter of 2018 when compared to the same period in 2017 dropped from 1008 to 985 vessels representing a decrease of 2.3 per cent, according to statistics made available by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
This shows a gross tonnage of ship 31,693,650 as against 32,598,477 recorded in the 4th quarter of 2017, showing a decline of 2.8%.

Gulftainer is investing in a new 2km highway to link the Saja a Industrial Investment Park (SIIP) in Sharjah to the three major seaports in the emirate - Port Khalid, Hamriyah Port and Khorfakkan Port.
