CMA CGM to Continue Pursuing Acquisitions
French container shipping company CMA CGM plans to continue to look for acquisition opportunities after its plans for merging with German rival Hapag-Lloyd fell through, Reuters reports.
Speaking on the sidelines of yesterday s inauguration of the company s new flagship, the 20,600 TEU CMA CGM Antoine de Saint Exupery, in the Port of le Havre, the company s CEO Radolph Saade , confirmed to Reuters his company was interested in Hapag-Lloyd, but added that the matter was closed now.

TORM, NYK to Install Alfa Laval s BWMS on 80 Ships
Danish tanker owner and operator TORM and Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) have contracted Alfa Laval to retrofit a total of 80 ships with ballast water management systems.
The company said that the individual orders for its Alfa Laval Pure Ballast 3 solution will be booked in the Marine Separation & Heat Transfer Equipment unit of the Marine Division between 2019 and 2024, and that a vast majority will be delivered before 2022.

Mitsui Scoops Orders for Eco Post Panamax Trio
Japanese shipbuilder Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding Co has won orders for three Post Panamax bulkers pertaining to its new neo 87BC eco ship design. The company behind the order has not been revealed nor the price details of the contract.Mitsui said that its 87,000 dwt neo series vessels comply with IACS Harmonized Common Structural Rules (H-CSR).

US-flagged car carrier collided with tug, both damaged, Bremerhaven
USA-flagged car carrier collided with port tug at Bremerhaven Germany in the afternoon Sep 4, according to police official statement, made on Sep 6. Two tugs were assisting car carrier to dock, when a third suddenly made a sharp move and struck car carrier in bow section. Tug suffered serious damages, car carrier hull was breached above waterline. One of tug crew was injured and had to be hospitalized. Car carrier wasn t identified. According to AIS, it s HONOR, ship arrived at Bremerhaven on Sep 4, as of afternoon Sep 6 was still in port.

MSC CHIARA mishap in Kuwait
Maritime Bulletin was informed by one of website visitors on an accident at Shuwaikh port, Kuwait, which he witnessed on Sep 5. Container ship MSC CHIARA was offloading containers by its own cranes, one of container fell on berth because of crane failure, and crushed another, already offloaded, container. Both containers, from the look of them, were severely damaged.

Monaco-based Navios Maritime Containers has commenced an initial public offering of over 5.2 million common units in the United States targeting around USD 102 million in net proceeds. The company has granted the underwriters for the IPO an option to purchase up to 789,474 additional common units.

China Is the World s Leading Maritime Nation, New Report Shows
China is the top international shipping nation according to a new report presented by DNV GL and Menon Economics at SMM trade fair in Hamburg on September 5.
The study, entitled "The Leading Maritime Nations of the World", benchmarks the 30 leading maritime nations around the world in four key maritime pillars: shipping, finance and law, maritime technology and ports & logistics, in an attempt to understand the key drivers behind national maritime success.

Another LNG-Fueled Bulker Newbuilding Joins ESL Shipping
Finnish shipping company ESL Shipping has taken delivery of another LNG-fueled bulk carrier, Viikki, from Chinese Jinling Shipyard. Featuring a length of 160 meters, the 25,600 dwt newbuilding emits over 50 percent less carbon dioxide than the previous generation of vessels, according to the company.

Jiangnan Shipyard Wins AiP for LNG JUMBO Flex LNG Carrier Design
Jiangnan Shipbuilding Company (Jiangnan Shipyard) has received an approval in principle (AiP) from DNV GL for the "LNG JUMBO", a new Flex LNG carrier design, at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg. The design was developed by Jiangnan Shipyard in cooperation with ship designer MARIC, GTT and DNV GL among others.

Shipping Ministry clears bail-out plan for stressed PPP projects at major ports
The Shipping Ministry has cleared a bail-out plan for stressed public-private partnership (PPP) projects at major port trusts along with a criteria to classify/identify stressed projects.
To save PPP projects that have become stressed due to "abnormally high storage charges", the Ministry has framed a three-point formula that includes extending the free storage period comparable to what nearby private ports are offering users "to optimise capacity utilisation of the berth".

Philippines: Port cargo volume up 2% in 7 months
Volume of cargo at the country s ports posted an uptick in the first seven months behind sluggish local and foreign trade, according to the Philippine Ports Authority.
Latest data from the PPA showed that cargo traffic reached 147.271 million metric tons (MMT) from January to July, up two percent from the 144.412 MMT in the same period last year.

Kalmar to deliver two Ship-to-Shore cranes to Curacao Port Services B.V.
Kalmar, part of Cargotec has signed a contract for supplying two Kalmar Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, including related spare parts, to Curaçao Port Services B.V. The Panamax size cranes will be used for modernising the customer s container handling operations at the Willemstad Container Terminal in Curaçao. The order was booked into Cargotec s 2018 third quarter order intake, and the delivery is planned to be completed by the end of 2019.
