Leading container port JNPT s traffic declines over 16% in August
Leading container port JNPT on Friday reported 16.61 per cent drop in total traffic handled to 4.74 million tonnes in August, as against 5.68 million tonnes in the same month last year.
"JN Port registered a throughput of 3,52,735 TEUs in container handling in August as against 3,44,316 TEUs handled in July 2020. The overall traffic handled during the month was 4.74 million tonnes as against 5.68 million tonnes in August 2019," JNPT said in a release.Posted On:8-Sep-2020

India : Govt directs major ports not to collect penal charges from users during lockdown period.
The Shipping Ministry has asked the 12 major ports to implement its April 21 advisory in "letter and spirit" and ensure that no penal charges are levied from port users during the lockdown period, plus 30 days recovery time.

Search for missing livestock ship crew off Japan resumes.
Japanese coast guard ships resumed searching on Tuesday for a livestock ship and its 40 missing crew members off Japan s southern islands after the efforts were suspended due to a typhoon.
The Gulf Livestock 1 sent a distress signal early Sept. 2 while it was sailing in stormy conditions in the East China Sea as a typhoon passed the area. Two survivors were rescued and the body of a third crew member was recovered before a second typhoon halted the search.Posted On:8-Sep-2020

Port of Rotterdam: First steps in environmentally responsible degassing of ships.
In the near future, the Netherlands will no longer allow ships to remove vapours from their holds - known as degassing - while in transit. This nation-wide ban means that the sector soon needs to have access to sufficient safe and environmentally responsible alternatives. Tanker hit by devastating explosion, Vietnam
Product tanker TRUNG THAO 36 BLC suffered a devastating explosion in portside cargo tanks midship area in the morning Sep 7, while waiting for permission to enter Dung Quat port, Quang Ngai, central Vietnam. Some of 12 crew were thrown overboard by the blast. 1 crew went missing, 11 were rescued. Fire after explosion was extinguished by SAR and tug boats in about an hour.
