Cargo volumes at dozen state-owned ports decline 8.8% during April-December The country's dozen state-owned ports handled a combined 477.755 million tonnes (mt) of cargo during April to December, 8.8 per cent lower than the 523.844 mt in the same period last year.
Barring Mormugao Port Trust, all the other 11 ports continue to suffer from volume declines triggered by the Covid-induced demand destruction. However, the extent of volume decline year-on-year has been reducing since July, suggesting a recovery in India's external trade, according to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.Posted On:5-Jan-2021

Korean tanker seized by Iran - a trivial incident nowadays Chemical tanker HANKUK CHEMI, reportedly loaded with ethanol, on Jan 4 was seized by Iranian military in Strait of Hormuz, and taken to Bandar Abbas waters, Iran, under the pretext of "environment protection" violations. As it later transpired, there s an issue of billions of dollars of Iranian assets frozen in Seoul, to be negotiated between Iran and Korea in coming days, so tanker seizure is, in all probability, an attempt to gain more leverage in forthcoming talks.Posted On:5-Jan-2021
