Eagle Bulk Takes Delivery of Another Ultramax
U.S.-based ship owner and operator Eagle Bulk Shipping has taken delivery of the fourth of six Ultramax drybulk vessels, it has recently agreed to acquire.
The 63,500 dwt Nautical Elisabeth has been renamed the M/V Santos Eagle.
The 2015-built, high specification scrubber-fitted SDARI-64 Ultramax vessel was built by China s Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry.
Earlier in 2019, the company acquired the six scrubber-fitted Ultramaxes as part of its strategy to renew and grow its fleet. The additions are expected to increase Eagle Bulk’s leverage to the opportunities the IMO 2020 will present, the company explained.
The first two bulkers, Dublin Eagle and Sydney Eagle, were handed over to the company in September 2019. In early October, Eagle Bulk Shipping said that the third unit from the batch, the Copenhagen Eagle, joined the fleet.
Once the three remaining two vessels are delivered, the company’s fleet will total 50 ships, including 20 Ultramax drybulk vessels acquired over the last 36 months.

Hudson Shipping Joins Trident Alliance
U.S.-based Hudson Shipping Lines became a member of the Trident Alliance as part of the company s ongoing green initiatives.
"The shipping industry has a tremendous opportunity to improve its impact upon the world with the IMO 2020 sulphur cap. Hudson believes it has a responsibility to encourage companies and countries to comply with both the letter and also the spirit of the sulphur rules," said Avi Eilon, Company President.
Hudson previously said it would not charter or use vessels with open or closed loop exhaust scrubbers installed following the implementation of the IMO 2020 sulphur cap on January 1, 2020.
The company s membership in the Trident Alliance is part of its efforts to ensure that the shipping industry lives up to the standards set by the global sulphur cap. The Trident Alliance s core mission of ensuring adequate enforcement of sulphur regulations is a necessary foundation for this goal, the company explained.
Hudson will work with and within the Trident Alliance to ensure robust enforcement of all maritime sulphur regulations and develop new technologies to monitor ships compliance with the regulations.
The company believes that the current form of sulphur regulations contains "a major loophole that is being abused by irresponsible shipowners to allow the continued use of high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO)."
While Hudson intends to work with the Trident Alliance on enforcement of sulphur regulations, the company said it would be supporting organizations that lobby countries, customers, producers and ports to ban exhaust gas scrubber systems, and encourage shipowners and the banks and financiers who finance their operation to cease their use and installation.

Iranian Tanker Damaged After Explosion off Jeddah
An Iranian crude oil tanker has suffered explosions and caught fire in a suspected missile attack off the Saudi Arabian coast.
The incident occurred some 96 kilometers from the port of Jeddah in the morning hours of October 11, 2019, according to the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA).
Identified as the 159,681 dwt Sabiti, the vessel is owned by the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).
The two separate explosions caused heavy damage to two of the ship s main oil tanks and the 274-meter-long Sabiti is now leaking oil into the Red Sea, ISNA reported.
Technical experts are investigating the cause of the explosion which is likely to be "the result of a terrorist attack", NIOC said in a statement.
There were no injuries or casualties reported.
Although the tanker is continuing spilling oil, it is said to be in a stable condition and in full control of its crew, a spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a separate statement.
The newest incident comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and Saudia Arabia following a missile and drone attack on two Saudi Arabian oil facilities in September 2019. Although Yemeni Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack, Saudi Arabia and the United States accused Iran of launching missiles and drones.
