Indian Ports Association takes the limelight at the World Logistics Awards 2020.
In the recent World Logistics Awards 2020, held on October 14th virtually, Indian Ports Association (IPA), an apex body of Major Ports under the administrative control of Ministry of Shipping, bagged three National Award 2020 - the Excellence in Logistic & Supply Chain and Excellence in Public Sector Unit under categories for Best E-Governance Implementation, Best-in-Class IT system Provider and Best IT project of the Year, all for PCS1x.Posted On:21-Oct-2020

Ferry PRIDE OF HULL fire
Fire erupted in engine room of ferry PRIDE OF HULL, servicing Hull - Rotterdam line, soon after she left Hull at around 1900 UTC Oct 20, with 260 passengers on board. Coast Guard and RNLI boats responded, the ship was anchored in Humber river at around 2000 UTC, and as of 0200 UTC Oct 21, was still at anchor, with tug at her side. Philippines: IMEC, ITF launch testing and quarantine facilities.
Quarantine and testing facilities for Filipino seafarers were recently launched by the International Maritime Employers Council (IMEC) and the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) in Manila.
In a statement, IMEC said the move aims to address the concerns raised by many international crew change hubs in recent weeks over the authenticity of Covid tests obtained in the Philippines, and over the efficacy of pre-embarkation quarantine served by joiners before being deployed.Posted On:21-Oct-2020

Philippines: 20 seafarers avail of CPA s crew change hub services.
The new crew change hub services established by the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) on October 18, 2020, has benefitted 20 seafarers after two days of activation.
In a statement released by the CPA, they revealed that there were 20 seafarers who were part of the first batch to avail of the services, 10 of whom are in-signers and another 10 off-signers of M/V Equinox Orenda.Posted On:21-Oct-2020

India: Goa CM assures seafarers to release pension.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday assured members of the Goan seamen association of India to "resolve issues regarding pension scheme for retired seamen". A delegation of the association submitted a letter to the chief minister seeking the release of funds under the Goa welfare pension scheme for seafarers which is pending since October 2019.Posted On:21-Oct-2020

Master of bulk carrier died on arrival at Greek port.
Bulk carrier KINGFISHER D in the evening Oct 18 requested medical assistance to 47-year old Master of the ship, who lost conscience, on arrival from Bejaia Algeria to Lavrio port anchorage, southeast Attica, Greece. Master was medevaced to Lavrio Port, but regretfully, he was found to be dead on arrival. His body was taken to hospital in Athens for autopsy. Australia evacuates crew from coronavirus infected livestock vessel.
Australian officials were evacuating workers from a Kuwaiti-flagged livestock ship docked off the country s west coast on Tuesday after at least half the 52 crew tested positive for COVID-19.
