Roughly 400,000 sailors are stuck on merchant vessels because of COVID. |
There are roughly 400,000 sailors stuck on merchant ships across the globe due to the coronavirus pandemic, and industry leaders are now calling on Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to step in.
The leaders of several major shipping bodies wrote an open letter to Bezos asking him to intercede on behalf of those stranded at sea.

A project has been launched in the UK to explore the viability of developing an offshore charging facility for vessels as part of the industry s efforts to decarbonize its vessel operations.
Funded by the first phase of the UK Government s Sustainable Innovation Fund, the project - led by Turbulent Simulations, alongside Aluminium Marine Consultants, the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, MJR Power & Automation, Tidal Transit and Bibby Marine Services - will look into the design of a permanently stationed Offshore Charging Vessel.

Livestock carrier NABOLSI I experienced engine problems shortly after leaving Formentera anchorage, Formentera island, Balearic islands, Spain, western Med, on Nov 27. The ship was sheltering from storm at Formentera anchorage since Nov 20, couldn t leave anchorage after storm passed because of engine problems. She is en route from Tenes Algeria to Sete France, understood with no cattle on board.

Drilling rig OLINDA STAR, understood abandoned or in a lay-up, is drifting in Bay of Bengal some 40 nm south of Kakinada, India, most probably breaking off her anchors during Cyclone Nivar passage. Understood there were no people on board. In December 2018, rig developed heavy list during Cyclone Phethai passage, personnel were evacuated in advance.

Fishing vessel sank after collision with cargo ship, 1 dead, Japan |
General cargo ship HAYATO collided with fishing vessel while approaching Kashima port, Honshu east coast north of Tokyo, at around 0530 Tokyo time Nov 28. Fishing boat partially sank, with her bow part still above water. All 12 people on board were rescued, all sustained injures, 1 later died.
