India: Shipping ministry to permit debarred seafarers to apply for CDC, says Shripad
Spelling good news for the seafaring community, the Union ministry of shipping is likely to lift the ban imposed on seafarers who had forged documents to qualify for shipping jobs. Minister of state for shipping Mansukh Mandaviya assured Ayush minister and minister of state for defence Shripad Naik that Goan seafarers, who were barred from applying for Indian Continuous Discharge Certificate, will be able to do so soon.Posted On:5-Nov-2020

Maritime Charities Launch Training Fund For Seafarers.
The Maritime Charities Group (MCG), together with MCG members the Merchant Navy Welfare Board (MNWB) and Trinity House, has joined forces with the Marine Society to launch a bursary fund for seafarer training. The fund is aimed at merchant seafarers who are based in the UK and are facing redundancy as a direct result of Covid-19. India: Cargo volumes at state-owned ports decline 12.43% during April-October
India s dozen state-owned ports handled a combined 354.818 million tonnes (mt) of cargo during April to October of the current fiscal, 12.43 per cent lower than the 405.201 mt handled during the same period last year.

Singapore seeing 500 - 600 crew changes per day, expects same to continue
Speaking at the Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) 2020 Forum webinar on Quah Ley Hoon, chief executive of the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said that the city-state had facilitated the change over of 50,821 crew since 27 March this year. Confirmed attacked ship is tanker NEFELI II, she s under way since 1030 UTC, crew reportedly safe, understood they managed to hide in citadel when pirates boarded tanker. Understood pirates looted the ship, and fled.

Former Soviet cruise ship beached by storm, Gulf of Mexico
Decommissioned and intended for dismantling passenger ship ENCHANTED CAPRI (ex- Soviet cruise ship Azerbaijan) in the afternoon Nov 2 dragged anchor and drifted aground on a beach in Alvarado municipality waters, Veracruz State, Mexico, Gulf of Mexico. Aframax crude oil tanker explosion, 5 workers injured, Turkey
Aframax crude oil tanker SRI ASIH reportedly suffered an explosion in cargo tank on Nov 3, while undergoing repairs at Yalova ship repair yard, Turkey, Marmara sea. 5 workers are said to be injured, hospitalized.
