India: IWAI eases tender terms for privatising 3 river terminals NW1
The Inland Waterways Authority of India has eased tender terms for privatising the multi-modal cargo terminals at Varanasi, Haldia and Sahibganj on National Waterway 1.
The three multi-modal terminals were built by the waterways development agency on the 1,390-km along river Ganga with World Bank funding.

India: Chennai Port to get digitised operations
As part of its efforts to promote the ease of doing business through digital transformation and to build a world-class port infrastructure, the Chennai Port will soon implement an enterprise business system (EBS) project.
The implementation of EBS project in Chennai Port is at an advanced stage and will be a way forward in their vision to digitalize and make online the end-to-end transactions, said Chennai Port Chairman P Raveendran.

India: Nations First-Ever Luxury Cruise Service To Be On The Holy Saryu River.
'Ramayan Cruise Tour' on the Saryu river in Ayodhya will be launched soon. Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways today chaired a review meeting for the implementation of cruise service.
It will be the first-ever luxury Cruise service on the Saryu river (Ghagra/National Waterways-40) in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Covid-19 effect: Shipping bodies urge Amazon to help stranded seafarers.
With lakhs of seafarers, including many Indians, stranded at sea unable to come home due to Covid-19 related restrictions imposed by various countries, international shipping associations are exerting pressure on global entrepreneurs like Amazons CEO Jeff Bezos to take a stand for the stranded seafarers and help them in repatriation.

IMO welcomes UN resolution on key worker seafarers.
The United Nations General Assembly has called on UN Member States to designate seafarers and other marine personnel as key workers and to implement relevant measures to allow stranded seafarers to be repatriated and others to join ships, and to ensure access to medical care.

German maritime authority notified shippers of Nord Stream 2 work.
The maritime authority in the German city of Stralsund has informed shippers about pipeline-laying activities from Dec. 5 through Dec. 31 in the Baltic Sea area where the controversial gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 will make landfall.
A statement by the waterways and shipping office, called Wasser- und Schifffahrtsamt Stralsund, said the work would be carried out in the Adlergrund area near the island of Ruegen.

Panama Joins The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network.
The Panama Ship Registry has joined the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) becoming part of the worlds largest group of maritime companies fighting for a better and corruption-free business environment.
"We are committed to supporting MACN in its vision of fair trade and a free-corruption maritime industry," said Rafael Cigarruista, director of the Ship Registry.

India: Seafarers seeks exemption from qualifying rules for NRI status.
Seafarers have sought government intervention to be exempted from meeting the qualifying rules for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) status that grants tax-free income for FY 21 due to the pandemic induced restrictions on crew change.
On one hand, Indian seafarers who were serving on ships when major lockdowns were announced worldwide could not be brought home.

Singapore: MPA trials new technology and improves procedures to facilitate crew change
Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Transport, Chee Hong Tat on Monday (30 November) highlighted the importance of industry, unions and international organisations working together on facilitating crew change.
"Singapore has facilitated crew change for more than 60,000 crew of different nationalities from more than 3,500 ships," he said Senior Minister Chee during the opening of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) s International Safety@Sea Webinar Series.

California dive boat captain charged with manslaughter in maritime disaster.
The captain of a dive boat that caught fire and sank off the California coast in 2019, killing 34 people in one of the states deadliest maritime disasters on record, was indicted on Tuesday on federal manslaughter charges, U.S. prosecutors said.
Each of the 34 seamans manslaughter counts returned against Jerry Nehl Boylan, 67, of Santa Barbara, carries a statutory maximum penalty of 10 years in prison if he is convicted, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorneys Office in Los Angeles.

Cargo ship was boarded by armed pirates at around 0300 UTC Nov 30 in Conakry Anchorage waters, Guinea, West Africa. According to ships tracks and time/position of the attack, attacked ship most probably, is a Turkish general cargo ship TANGO REY. The ship docked at Conakry port on Nov 25, on Nov 26 she moved to Conakry anchorage and anchored in position where attack took place.

British ports left scrambling as Brexit deadline hovers.
