K Line Trials Binary Cycle Power Generation System on Newbuild Coal Carrier |
Japanese shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has welcomed into the fleet a newbuilding coal carrier from its Corona series named Corona Youthful.
The 91,000 dwt vessel was built by Oshima Shipbuilding Co. and been fitted with a binary cycle power generation system developed by Oshima s Kobe Steel.

China s Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co (DSIC) has secured Approval in Principle (AIP) for two LNG-powered designs from American classification society ABS.
DSIC s designs include a 208,000 dwt bulk carrier and a concept 260,000 dwt very large ore carrier (VLOC).

Kawasaki Heavy Industries Gets ClassNK AIP for LNG-Fueled Bulk Carrier |
Classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) has granted an approval in principle (AIP) to Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) for the company s project on the concept design of an LNG-fueled 207,000 dwt bulk carrier.
Speaking on the occasion, Hayato Suga, ClassNK Corporate Officer and Director of Technical Solution Department, said:
"The maritime industry has been setting its sights on LNG as an energy source for ships as it is an environmentally-friendly alternative to fossil fuels."

MAN: LPG Engine to Power Chinese VLGC |
Jiangnan Shipyard, owned by China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC), has ordered an LPG-burning engine for an 86,000 cbm very large gas carrier (VLGC), MAN Energy Solutions said.
The ship, which will be equipped with MAN B&W 6G60ME-LGIP engine, is being built for China s shipping company Tianjin Southwest Maritime (TSM) and is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2021.

Norden Selected for Long-Term Indian Contract |
Danish shipping company Norden has signed a ten-year Panamax contract of affreightment (COA) with Indian utility firm Sembcorp Energy India.
From April 1, 2019, until March 31, 2029, Norden will carry out transportation of steam coal in Panamax shipments totaling 12 million tons over the decade.

Storms, snow disrupt oil product exports from Russian Baltic, southern ports |
Storms, snow and freezing temperatures in Russia s northwest to the south have delayed some oil product exports but the fall in volumes so far has not been exceptional for the time of year, industry sources said on Thursday.
Products are mainly shipped from ports on the Baltic coast, Black Sea, Sea of Azov and the Far East.

Nigeria: Cargo throughput records lowest performance in 2018 |
Cargo throughput, excluding crude oil, at Nigerian ports, witnessed the lowest performance in 2018 with a total of 35.9m tonnes.
This was against the 2014 figure where cargo throughput witnessed the highest climb with 84.9m tonnes.

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) will sign an agreement with Colombo Dockyard PLC to build two pilot boats for Colombo Port enabling it to handle a greater volume of activities with more efficiency.
A pilot boat is a type of boat used to transport maritime pilots between land and the inbound or outbound ships that they are piloting.
