CMA CGM Grows Its Logistics Presence
French liner company CMA CGM has reached an agreement to acquire an equity stake of nearly 25 percent in CEVA Logistics AG (CEVA), a global player in the logistics sector. Under the deal, CMA CGM has committed to subscribe for mandatory convertible securities of CEVA in an estimated amount between CHF 380 and 450 million (approximately USD 391-463 million). Greek bulk carrier detained in Paradip by court
Bulk carrier THEOMETOR was detained at Paradip port, India, after offloading cargo of 51,350 tons of rock phosphate, on Apr 19, after a court warrant. According to The Indian Express News Agency, Greece-based ship s manager Latona Maritime has financial dispute with, understood, charterer, Singaporean Valency International Trading Pvt Ltd (VIT), and latter went to court, seeking for ship s arrest. Court warranted detention and summoned manager to court. Greek-Chinese Dynagas LNG tanker grossly violated Arctic safety rules
LNG tanker BORIS VILKITSKY, according to NSR MA report, grossly violated the North Sea Route Navigational Safety Rules by entering Kara Sea, while en route to Sabetta LNG Plant, with serious deficiencies, which reduce ship s Ice Class and restrict sailing in ice conditions. The ship has inoperative stern thrusters and port steering column since Mar 10, according to Bureau Veritas report, she can t navigate in Kara sea either alone, or with icebreakers escort. Diana Shipping Secures New Charter Deals with Cargill
Greek dry bulk owner Diana Shipping has secured a charter extension and a new charter agreement with Geneva-based Cargill International. Cargill extended the the present time charter contract for Diana Shipping s Capesize dry bulk vessel, the m/v Santa Barbara. Tianyuan Logistics Tied to Ten Bulkers at CSIC

COSCO Shipping Gemini Joins World s 20,000 TEU Club
A colossal containership with a deck equaling the size of four football fields was named and delivered to COSCO Shipping Lines on April 10. The Hong Kong-flagged 20,000 TEU containership, named COSCO Shipping Gemini, was built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC). 16 Abandoned Seafarers Return Home after Months on Powerless Ship
16 crew members of the Bahrain-flagged container ship Avonmoor have received their wages and returned home to Ukraine after being abandoned for four months in Morocco, International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) said. The seafarers were abandoned in the Port of Casablanca by the vessel s owner Tylos Shipping and Marine services in January 2018. 36.58 million tonnes of cargo handled by port
V.O. Chidambaranar Port here 365.83 lakh tonnes of cargo against the previous year s 384.63 lakh tonnes, registering a decrease of 4.89%. While imports accounted for 261.71 lakh tonnes (-6.52%), exports accounted for 104.12 lakh tonnes (-0.51%). The port registered a record throughput of 6,97,631 Twenty Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of containers in 2017-18 clocking a growth of 8.65% over the previous year s 6,42,103 TEUs. I. Sri Lanka Ports Authority s JCT records 15.3% growth in 1Q of 2018
Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) says with 100% attendance of operations and all other supportive staff during Sinhala and Tamil New Year season, and especially on 13th and 14th April 2018, the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and the Unity Container Terminal (UCT) were competitive and successful in keeping all its berths fully occupied. The JCT and the UCT together handled 7,459 TEUs On 13th April and 6,259 TEUs on the 14th.
