Another CarVal Vessel Joins GoodBulk
Owner and operator of dry bulkers GoodBulk took delivery of a 2011-built Capesize vessel,the Aquacarrier, on May 14. Featuring 175,935 dwt, the Capesize is the final one to deliver out of the six option vessels acquired from funds managed by CarVal Investors in December 2017.
The purchase was financed with a combination of cash on hand, availability under existing credit facilities and the issuance of 1,150,689 new common shares to funds managed by CarVal.

Newport Adds Three PaxOcean Repair Yards to Its Network
UK-based Newport Shipping has expanded its network of ship repair yards through a cooperation agreement with Singapore s PaxOcean. Under the deal, Newport expanded its scope with facilities in Singapore, Indonesia and China.
PaxOcean s Pertama (Batam, Indonesia), PaxOcean Singapore and PaxOcean Zhoushan facilities, bring Newport s tally of ship repair yards to six, totalling 13 drydocks and providing annual drydocking capacity for more than 1000 vessels.

Navios Holdings Benefits from Improved Charter Markets
Greek shipping firm Navios Maritime Holdings delivered higher revenue in the first quarter of 2018 driven by healthier charter markets. Revenue from dry bulk vessel operations for the three months ended March 31, 2018 was USD 64.7 million as compared to USD 51.5 million for the same period in 2017.
The increase was mainly attributable to a rise in the time charter equivalent (TCE) per day by 39.8% to USD 10,983 per day in the first quarter, as compared to USD 7,857 per day in 2017.

TEN Linked to LR2 Order at Daehan
Greek shipowner Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) has booked the construction of two Long Range (LR2)/Aframax tankers at South Korean shipbuilder Daehan Shipbuilding, data from Asiasis shows. The two ships are scheduled for delivery in October 2019 and January 2020. Price details of the order have not been disclosed.

Two tankers contact, S-Petersburg
Tankers AURA and ANGARA, both owned by BALT STAR Company, Russia, at 0125 Moscow time May 14 contacted while passing each other by portside, in buoy 15 area, Kronshtadt fairway, S-Petersburg. ANGARA lost fender, AURA suffered deck and equipment on upper deck damages.

Angelicoussis Shipping Picks Ecochlor BWTS for 36 Ships
Greek-owned Angelicoussis Shipping Group Limited (ASGL) has selected USA-based Ecochlor to retrofit its 36 vessels with the company s ballast water treatment systems (BWTS). The retrofit candidates include Suezmaxes, Aframaxes, VLCCs, Minicapes and Capes. The installations are scheduled to take place between 2018 - 2020 in Singapore, Dubai, Qatar and China. With this decision, Anangel aims to comply with the BWM Convention for their fleet of vessels.

DFDS Raises USD 160 Mn
Danish shipping and logistics company DFDS has raised USD 160 million via a private placement of shares. The investors have subscribed for 2,631,578 of new shares at an offer price of DKK 380 per share, raising gross proceeds of approximately DKK 1.0 bn. "As the offering was oversubscribed by Danish and international professional and institutional investors compared to the targeted gross proceeds of approximately DKK 1.0bn, the shares have been allocated on an individual basis," DFDS said.

IAPH conference in Baku, the pearl of the Caspian, makes a new record
The International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) convened in Baku, Azerbaijan, 8 – 11 May 2018, under the theme "Ports of the Future: Building Hubs, Accelerating Connectivity. Hosted by "Baku International Sea Trade Port" CJSC (Dr. Taleh Ziyadov, Director-General), it turned out to be the most successful and well-attended Mid-term conference of IAPH, attracting more than 400 delegates, accompanying persons, speakers and exhibitors from 65 nations. The opening ceremony was staged at Heydar Aliyev Center - a symbol of modern Baku, on Wednesday, 9 May.
In his opening speech, IAPH President Santiago Garcia-Mila stressed the significance of holding an IAPH conference for the first time in Baku by mentioning "It is so meaningful for us, world port players, today to gather and debate in Baku, that used to be a key trading post of the ancient Silk Roads and now functions as an important hub port in this region."

Hyundai Merchant to raise its stake in Busan terminal
Hyundai Merchant Marine Co., South Korea s biggest shipping line, said Tuesday it will raise its stake in a Busan terminal in a move that could strengthen its competitiveness through lower cargo handling costs.
Hyundai Merchant Marine said it and PSA International, a Singapore-based terminal operator, are set to acquire 40 percent and 10 percent stakes from private equity investment firm IMM Investment, respectively. The deal - signed in South Korea s southeastern port of Busan earlier in the day - will raise the stakes in the terminal of Hyundai Merchant Marine and PSA International to 50 percent each for their co-management of the terminal.

Port of East London to expand its petroleum footprint
More than 100 attendees representing 97 companies have shown keen interest in the Port of East London s plans to recommission an existing tank in the port for handling of liquid bulk and to introduce a liquid bulk terminal through a 25-year port concession awarded to a private, empowered entity.
The companies attended a compulsory briefing on 9 May 2018 held by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA). TNPA recently advertised a request for proposals (RFP) - reference number TNPA 2017/01/013/CM - with the intention to appoint a terminal operator to finance, re-commission, operate and maintain the HFO tank, and to finance, design, develop, construct, operate, maintain and then transfer to the TNPA the liquid bulk terminal for the handling of liquid bulk cargo after a period of 25 years.

Tanzania: Transit Oil Cargo At Dar Port Grows By 50%
Transit oil cargo through the Dar es Salaam port grew by 48.5 per cent in the first months of this year as compared to corresponding period last year. According to the country s Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) data, transit fuel shipped through the port increased by 49 per cent, thanks to efficiency and reforms at the Dar es Salaam port.
"The agency is happy to announce that it has recorded a steady growth in transit fuel since the Bulk Procurement System was established in 2015," PBPA Acting Director General Erasto Simon told the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals here over the weekend.

Successful start into financial year 2018 for HHLA
The 2018 financial year has started successfully for Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA). Both Group revenue and the Group operating result in-creased in the first three months compared to the same period of the previ-ous year. Both subgroups, the listed Port Logistics subgroup and the Real Estate subgroup, contributed to the good start this year. A 2.6 % increase in container handling was recorded, while container transport declined by 5.3 % due to the realignment of Polzug s activities. Revenue in the Port Logis-tics subgroup was up 3.3 %.
HHLA confirms its target for the current financial year of at least keeping revenue stable on par with the high level of the previous year and achieving considerably higher EBIT in the Port Logis-tics subgroup and at Group level.
