New MR Ship Joins Maersk Tankers Fleet
Danish tanker owner and operator Maersk Tankers took delivery of its newest MR product tanker, Maersk Callao, on July 27. The 50,000 dwt vessel embarked on its first voyage following delivery from Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Ningbo, China.
The vessel, featuring a length of 183 meters and a width of 32.2 meters, successfully conducted its sea trials in late June.

Pacific Basin Poised to Tap Into Market Recovery after Returning to Profit
Hong Kong-based owner and operator of dry bulk carriers Pacific Basin has returned to the black in the first half of 2018 thanks to the recovery of the dry bulk market. The company booked a net profit of USD 30.8 million, a major rebound when compared to the USD 12 million net loss from the same period in 2017.
"The minor bulk freight market strengthened again in the first half of 2018 which, combined with our high laden utilization, continued outperformance and competitive cost structure, enabled us to record much improved positive results compared to the same period last year," Mats Berglund, Chief Executive Office of Pacific Basin, said.

KOBC to Offer Financial Support to 10 Shipping Firms
The government-backed Korea Ocean Business Corporation (KOBC) is to offer financial support to ten small and medium-sized shipping companies in an effort to help the ailing shipping industry.
The organization selected the shipping companies as partners under sale and lease back (S&LB) projects. This way the companies would receive benefits such as interest rate cuts and extension of maturity through the sale and lease back support.

COSCO Shipping Lines Back to Normal after Cyber Attack
Following last week s cyber attack, COSCO Shipping Lines informed that its network applications in the Americas have been totally recovered.
"All communication channels including telephone, email, and electronic data exchange have been restored. There has been a further increase in our service response. We are working at full stretch to process all the service requests received previously, and the service response is expected to be back on track within this week."

Saudi s VLCC tanker attacked by Houthi was in time hole?
After some doubts were expressed about Saudi tankers mysterious attacks in Bab al-Mandeb, several media on Jul 28 published news on these attacks, with, well, details, and some names. Prior to those news, Yemeni media, Iranian media or Houthi media, strongly denied allegations in tankers attack, and claimed Yemeni or Houthi forces fired missiles at Saudi Navy frigate, and sank it.

Container ship damaged in collision, Antwerp
Container ship HEINRICH SCHEPERS collided with embankment at Doel, Scheldt, Belgium, while entering Antwerp port, at around 0000 UTC Jul 29. Reportedly HEINRICH SCHEPERS sustained hull breach of some 2 meters long, above waterline. HEINRICH SCHEPERS was taken to berth, as of 0400 UTC she was in the same position, berthed at Antwerp. Mechanical failure is believed to be the cause of an accident.

3 crew injured by chem leak, medevaced from tanker
Three crew members of chemical tanker STELLAR ORCHID were medevaced by helicopter in the morning Jul 28 off Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with chemical burns, and transported to hospital, there s no danger to their lives, all three are of Myanmar nationality. Tanker is en route from Korea to Malaysia, with a short call at Taichung, Taiwan, on Jul 25. What happened and caused chemical leak which injured crew, is unknown. Latest AIS records are dated Jul 26, when tanker was abeam of Kaohsiung, so how come tanker was still off Kaohsiung 2 days later, is also unknown.

APL container ship lost 8 containers in Norfolk USA
8 container fell into water from container ship APL ANTWERP in the afternoon Jul 29 during offloading operation, at Norfolk International Container Terminal. 3 containers reportedly sank, 5 were recovered. Sank containers judging from AIS, caused problems for ships traffic in harbor bulk carrier GOLD DUST was maneuvering in harbor for several hours on arrival on Jul 29, and finally, was brought to anchor.

Dutch Maritime Sector Recovers after Difficult Years
A cautious recovery became apparent in the global shipbuilding industry in 2017, especially over the final months of the year. Also the Dutch maritime cluster sees a positive change.
"We can be proud of the many orders that our industry has taken in 2017, despite the many challenges faced," Bas Ort, chair of the Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT) trade association, said.
Despite the beginnings of a recovery that became apparent in 2017, turnover still decreased by some five per cent during the year, from EUR 7.3 to EUR 6.9 billion for yards and suppliers collectively.

Princess Cruises to introduce their most environmentally friendly ships yet
Princess Cruises has made an agreement with Italian shipbuilder, Fincantieri S.p.A., to build two new cruise ships powered primarily by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
The new vessels will be Princess Cruises first ships to be dual-fuel powered by NLG, the marine industry s most environmentally friendly advanced fuel technology and the world s cleanest burning fossil fuel, which will significantly reduce air emissions and marine gasoil (MGO).

VEEM s marine stabilisation technology gains traction with leading European luxury super yacht builders
Australian marine technology company VEEM (ASX: VEE) has confirmed multiple sales of its range of heavy-duty gyrostabilisers to some of Europe s leading builders of luxury super yachts.
Four companies in the Netherlands and one in France have signed separate sales agreements for the purchase of VEEM s high-tech gyrostabilisers, indicating that the Perth-based manufacturer has reached a "tipping point of acceptance" in the global marketplace.
