WinGD, Wartsila & GTT to Facilitate Uptake of LNG Fuel |
Marine technology companies WinGD, Wartsila and GTT have joined forces on making the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel a truly viable option for ship owners and operators.
LNG is becoming an ever more appealing option for owners especially in the wake of the upcoming IMO s regulations in 2020, imposing 0.5 percent cap on sulphur content in marine fuels. The trio believes that by combining their expertise they can further facilitate the integration of LNG fuel into the industry for ship owners.

World s 1st Ethane Fuel Conversion Completed on Board Navigator Aurora |
The world s first conversion of a slow-speed marine diesel engine to operate on ethane as a fuel has been completed on board the vessel Navigator Aurora, classification society ABS said.
Navigator Gas, in partnership with Charterer Borealis, engine manufacturer MAN Energy Solutions, cargo system and fuel gas supply system supplier TGE and ABS, has converted Navigator Aurora s main engine from LNG fueling to ethane fueling, while the ship was berthed alongside at Frederikshavn in Denmark.

Excelerate Energy Commissions Bangladesh s First LNG Import Terminal |
On August 18, 2018, Excelerate Energy Bangladesh Limited (Excelerate) completed the commissioning of its Moheshkhali Floating LNG (MLNG) terminal - Bangladesh s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facility - signifying the official commencement of operations for the project. This milestone was achieved approximately 25 months after the execution of project agreements, which took place in July 2016, with the state-owned Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) and 13 months following the receipt of all permits required to achieve financial close in August 2017 with its lenders, led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Elbe Deepening Can Finally Start |
The Port of Hamburg will soon be able to welcome 20,000+TEU containerships as the plan to dredge the river Elbe has finally received the green light from German authorities.
Specifically, the planning procedure for fairway adjustment on the Outer and Lower Elbe has been completed with the supplementary planning approval, the Port of Hamburg said. Last year, the country s Federal Administrative Court approved in principle the plan stating that it needed to be revised due to "the violation of the habitat protection law."

Wan Hai Lines In for Up to a Dozen Feeders |
Taiwanese container shipping company Wan Hai Lines has placed an order for up to twelve 1,900 TEU containerships with two shipbuilders.
Japan Marine United has been chosen to build six firm plus two optional units, while CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has been entrusted with building four firm containerships, with an option to build two more, data from Asiasis shows. As disclosed, the ships will be built in accordance with IMO’s Tier II specifications and are set for delivery in 2020.

PSA s Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Increases Service Levels With Nine More Rubber Tyre Gantry Cranes |
Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Private Limited ("BMCT"), a subsidiary of PSA International, has received nine Rubber Tyre Gantry Cranes ("RTGs") on 3 August 2018, adding to its current fleet of 18 RTGs. An additional batch of nine RTGs are expected to arrive in early October 2018, bringing the total number of RTGs to 36.
Commissioning of the new RTGs is ongoing and the RTGs will be progressively ready for operations from end August 2018. With the latest arrivals, BMCT now has nine Quay Cranes and 27 RTGs to support the 1000 metres of contiguous quay length and four DFC ("Dedicated Freight Corridor")-enabled rail lines at the terminal.

Port Trade Continues To Grow In Month Of July |
Total trade through the Port of Melbourne for July 2018 saw a 9.0% increase (8.46 million revenue tonnes) on July of last year (2017).
All cargo types recorded increases for the month, with the exception of the dry bulk cargoes. Dry bulk decreases were a direct result of lower grain exports with the FY18 harvest returning closer to average volumes following a record FY17.

Eco-friendly power for container ships |
Hamburg is taking a further step toward improving air quality at its port. Innovative technology developed right here in the city is set to enable large and very large container ships to switch off their auxiliary diesel supplies during lay time and instead draw the power they need for on-board operations from a new kind of mobile generator. Becker Marine Systems, Hapag-Lloyd AG and Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) have been testing the new technology as part of a joint pilot project since the start of the year.

ABP lowestoft hosts emergency planning training as part of commitment to health and safety |
The Port of Lowestoft has hosted a training exercise day for members of Suffolk s Joint Emergency Planning Unit (JEPU) as part of ABP s commitment to creating a Beyond Zero health and safety culture at work.
As part of the exercise, members of JEPU participated in a day of team building to learn more about port operations at ABP Lowestoft. JEPU is a shared service owned by all eight local authorities in Suffolk. Its purpose is to support each local authority in fulfilling statutory responsibilities relating to planning for emergencies.
