Hokuetsu s New Wood-Chip Carrier Delivered
A new wood-chip carrier for Japanese paper manufacturer Hokuetsu Corporation has been delivered, shipping company NYK said.
The 60,360 dwt newbuilding, named Snow Camelia, was handed over to the company at Oshima Shipbuilding in Saikai city, Nagasaki, Japan, on September 11.

Union Maritime Linked to Purchase of Eight Aframaxes
UK-based shipowner Union Maritime has been linked to a sale-and-purchase agreement for eight Aframax tankers. According to data provided by VesselsValue, the units were purchased from compatriot BP at a total price of USD 108 million.
The ships in question are the British Cormorant, British Cygnet, British Eagle, British Falcon, British Gannet, British Kestrel, British Mallard and British Robin.

World Fuel Services Charters In New Bunker Supply Vessel
World Fuel Services (WFS) has welcomed a new supply vessel to its chartered-in fleet in an effort to "continue strengthening its logistical operations".
The 3,100 dwt product tanker Whitstar was deployed in early September 2018 to operate along the east and south coast with the task of servicing UK terminals.

International Seaways Chooses Scrubbers for Its VLCCs
US-based tanker shipping company International Seaways has signed contracts for the purchase and installation of exhaust gas cleaning systems on seven of its modern very large crude carriers (VLCCs).
The agreements with Norway s Clean Marine AS and a qualified system installer include an option for a further three systems covering the remaining three modern VLCCs in International Seaways fleet.

Maersk Line Ship Detained in Tunisia over Honam Claims
A 1,068 TEU containership, owned by Maersk Line, has been detained in Tunisia in relation to claims on Maersk Honam fire, the Danish shipping major informed. "We can confirm that on September 10, 2018 the vessel Alexander Maersk was detained in the Port of Sfax, Tunisia," a spokesperson from Maersk said.

MSC, CMA CGM Present Plans for Fuel Surcharges
Following the footsteps of Maersk Line, the Swiss and French container shipping giants MSC and CMA CGM have unveiled their intention to introduce a new fuel adjustment surcharge ahead of the 2020 sulphur cap.
Mediterranean Shipping Company plans to introduce a new Global Fuel Surcharge as of January 1, 2019. The company expects its operating costs to increase significantly in preparation for the 2020 low-sulphur fuel regime.

Breakaway bulk carrier contacted berthed bulk carrier, Brake
Bulk carrier STAR GRIP broke off her moorings at Brake, Weser river, Germany, around midday Sep 24, affected by strong current and wind. The ship contacted berthed bulk carrier S BRONCO (IMO 9311050) and drifted into river fairway, where she was taken under control thanks to crew alertness. Crew managed to start engine and hold the ship on the fairway against current and wind. With the help of tugs, STAR GRIP was taken back to berth. S BRONCO reportedly, sustained slight damage, some scratches and grazed paint.

Ardmore Says Newbuilds Encountered BWTS Issues, Picks New Supplier
Owner and operator of product and chemical tankers Ardmore Shipping revealed its newbuilds have experienced a number of operational issues related to ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) installed by an unnamed manufacturer.
"We have ten vessels with alternative systems that were installed at newbuild shipyards and have encountered a series of operational problems," Gerry Docherty, Director, Fleet Management, Ardmore, said.

Novatek Ships First LNG Cargo to Brazil
Russian natural gas producer Novatek has shipped its first LNG cargo to the Brazilian market with LNG produced from the Yamal LNG project.
The cargo, shipped through the company s subsidiary Novatek Gas and Power Asia, was delivered to the Bahia Regasification Terminal owned by Petrobras.

Panama Excludes Search and Rescue Ship Aquarius 2 from Its Registry
Urged by the Italian government, the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) has begun the process of revoking the registration of the search and rescue ship Aquarius 2, SOS Mediterranee and Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said.
On September 22, the Aquarius 2 team received a message by PMA stating that "unfortunately, it is necessary that [the Aquarius] be excluded from our registry, because it implies a political problem against the Panamanian government and the Panamanian fleet that arrive to European port."

LOC Renewables Charts Course For Build-Out Of Port Infrastructure To Support Floating Offshore Wind
The development of floating offshore wind will be held up by the limitations of current port infrastructure, recent research has revealed. As part of the Floating Wind Joint Industry Report, published on behalf of the Carbon Trust, LOC Renewables, a world-leading marine and engineering consultancy, together with WavEC and Cathie Associates, examined the logistical challenges relating to floating offshore, noting that few European ports are capable of accommodating all the quay-side manufacturing and assembly required for building and operating large-scale floating wind farms.

Estonia: Port cargo volumes in first eight months of 2018 up 2.2% on year
Estonian ports handled 23.8 million tonnes of cargo in the first eight months of 2018, 2.2% more than during the same period last year, it appears from data provided by Statistics Estonia.
The loading of goods increased 3.9% on year to 16.3 million tonnes, while unloading declined 1.3% to 7.6 million tonnes.

Klaipeda feels no impact from Belarus wish to shift freight from Lithuania to Latvia
Lithuania s port of Klaipeda has seen no specific action from Belarus after the neighboring country announced its plans to direct its freight from Klaipeda to Riga, Lithuania s Verslo Zinios business daily writes.
"We have not seen real steps to direct freight from Klaipeda," Vaidotas Sileika, director of Klaipeda Container Terminal, told the daily.

Australian firm offers to solve holiday port congestion
An innovation solutions company said the digitization of local port operations is key to ensuring port congestion is avoided as the holiday season comes.

Northeast India welcomes govt s decision to open Chittagong port
Northeast India has welcomed the Bangladeshi government s decision to enable the neighbouring country to use Chittagong s and Mongla s ports to move goods to and from India.
Finance ministers of both Tripura and Assam have said that opening up the ports will strengthen the connectivity of the Northeastern states, as the ports can be used to transport goods to the states in minimal time.
