Oslo-listed ship ower MPC Container Ships ASA continues its ambitious fleet buildup campaign with the addition of five new feeder containerships. The latest fleet additions are being purchased from Simatech Shipping & Forwarding from Dubai, the operator and manager of the vessels. Mar 16: Reportedly, Guangzhou Salvage was contracted to refloat bulk carrier. According to Chinese source, bulk carrier is still aground, salvage still going on. According to some AIS sources, bulk carrier is docked in Bahrain since Mar 14, arriving there from Nantong, which she left on Mar 4. Bulk carrier can t travel some 7000 nm in 10 days, unless she was converted into flying bulk carrier. Employees should know changes in ports sector: Indian Ports Association chairman
Ports employees should understand the changes happening in the sector, said Indian Ports Association chairman Sanjay Bhatia on Wednesday. He was delivering the keynote address at the trade union conference in connection with the national conference of the All India Port and Dock Workers Federation (AIPDWF) being held in the city.
"Oil handling forms a major chunk of income of the Mumbai port. But since the automobile industry is set to undergo drastic changes with the arrival of electrically-powered vehicles, a fall in the income of ports which handle oil can be expected. The world is changing. We should accept it and change accordingly," Bhatia said.
"Projects worth 8 lakh crore, aimed at modernisation, capacity enhancement, improved connectivity and port-led industrial development, are being implemented under the Sagarmala project," he said.Bhatia said trade unions were essential for the existence of democracy. "If trade unions and management function hand in hand for the sustainability of respective PSUs, a proposal for privatisation will never arise," he said. He said the land in possession of ports can be leveraged for the joint ventures with government agencies. HMS national general secretary Harbhajan Singh Sidhu inaugurated the conference. Indonesia, Australia to sign maritime plan
Combatting illegal fishing and drug and people smuggling are among key priorities of a new Australian and Indonesian maritime action plan. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and Defence Minister Marise Payne will hold talks with their Indonesian counterparts Retno Marsudi and Ryamizard Ryacudu in Sydney on Friday morning.
The annual ministerial meeting is happening on the sidelines of a broader Australian and Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) leaders summit. The ministers will sign a new plan which aims to strengthen maritime security, combat transnational crime, improve search and rescue coordination and disaster risk management. KOTC Seals Financing for Eight Tankers, Orders VLCC
Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) has signed today a financing deal with a syndicate of banks worth around USD 467 million (KD 140 million). The financing will be provided by Warba Bank, Ahli United Bank and Kuwait International. The ten-year financing deal is intended for eight tankers, KOTC said.
In addition, KOTC inked a shipbuilding contract with Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., part of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), for a very large crude carrier (VLCC). The VLCC will feature 318,000 dwtand is worth USD 79 million.Posted On:16-Mar-2018

Navios Containers Completes Boxship Purchase
Monaco-based container shipping company Navios Maritime Containers has taken delivery of Navios Dorado, a 2010-built boxship. As previously reported, the purchase price of the 4,250 TEU containership was USD 11.78 million.
"The Navios Dorado has been chartered out at a daily net rate of USD 10,468 until April/July 2019, and is expected to generate USD 1.3 million of annual EBITDA, based on fixed operating expenses and 360 revenue days," the company said.

Armed Pirates Board Tanker off Nigeria
Pirates armed with guns boarded a product tanker approaching the Bonny Fairway Buoy, Nigeria, on March 6, 2018, the IMB Piracy Reporting Centre said. As informed, the crew raised the alarm and activated ship security alert system (SSAS) before mustering in the citadel. The Nigerian Navy was notified and patrol boats were immediately deployed to assist the unnamed vessel. As all crew were in the citadel, the pirates were unable to take any hostages, according to IMB ICC. Freighter grounding, river Don
General cargo ship SORMOVSKIY-118 ran aground on river Don in buoys 55-57 area at 0522 Moscow time Mar 15, while sailing downstream with pilot on board, with some 3000 tons of wheat on board. Steering failure caused grounded, traffic in the area was closed. SORMOVSKIY-118 was refloated some 5 hours later and taken upstream to anchorage, where she was brought to anchor, understood for survey.
